Forensic handwriting experts must undergo two years of full time training under the watchful eye of a mentor. There are many people who pass themselves off as "Forensic Handwriting Experts" but who are really not properly trained. Be sure you are getting a legitimate handwriting expert by checking on the background of the person you are considering. One of the best ways to check out the validity of a forensic handwriting expert is to make sure they have held a government position as a full time questioned document examiner. I have worked for the U.S. Treasury Department BATF and the California State Department of Justice as a full time Questioned Document Examiner employee. I maintain consulting contracts with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and with the Sacramento City Police Department. I also work many cases for the California Secretary of State. As a forensic document analyst, I have traveled to Guam, Singapore, South Africa, Mexico, Alaska and many other States in the U.S.A. to testify or work cases as a professional Questioned Document Examiner.
